The Baynouna Solar Energy Company (BSCE), a joint venture between the UAE’s Masdar and the Finnish investment and asset management group Taaleri, inaugurated the 200-megawatt (MW) Baynouna Solar Park; the largest clean energy project in Jordan.
The Baynouna Plant would assist cooperative efficient climate actions, expand clean energy alternatives widely, and promote sustainable development. The project would also assist Jordan in achieving its clean energy and climate targets by reducing its annual emissions of 360,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
MOSTAQBAL Engineering & Environmental Consultants, in partnership with ILF Consulting Engineers, provided the construction supervision services for this prestigious project, located near the Muwaqar region east of Amman.
Baynouna station was developed under a power purchase agreement between Masdar and the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO). The station generates over 560 gigawatt/hours of energy each year, an amount sufficient for providing electricity to approximately 160,000 households. The station helps prevent the emission of 360,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, which is equivalent to neutralizing emissions from around 80,000 vehicles on the roads. The Baynouna project was made possible in part through support from the International Finance Corporation, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the German Development Bank (KfW), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
